Mito Tsutsuji Festival

"Tsutsuji" means "azaleas".The Azaleas Festival is held in Kairakuen Garden (one of three famous gardens in Japan), banks of the Lake Senba and Mito Forest Park. Kairakuen Garden is a good place to appreciate about 380 azaleas of rare varieties like Ookirishima azaleas and Toudai azaleas. There are about 10,000 rhododendrons and Kurume azaleas in the Forest Park. Sightseeing volunteers provide tour guide in Kairakuen Garden. Tourist can take a souvenir picture of Mito Koumon at Kairakuen Garden and Forest Park. You can enjoy the lavish hospitality of Mito while appreciating the red azaleas.

By bus:Take a bus for“Ibaraki Prefectural Museum of History・Kairakuen Garden” from Mito Station (North Exit), get off at “Omotemon of Kobuntei”, “East Gate to Kairakuen Garden•Kita-sando of Joban Sinto Shrine”, “Kairakuen Garden•Front of Joban Sinto Shrine”, or walk for about 8 minutes after getting off at the stop “Ibaraki Prefectural Museum of History•Entrance to Kairakuen Garden” Take a bus for “Kairakuen Garden” from Mito Station (North Exit, No.6 Bus Stop), and get off at the terminal station “Kairakuen Garden” (about 20 minutes, JPY240)

Senba Park
By bus:Take a bus from Mito Station (North Exit, No.6 Bus Stop), and get off at the Bus Stop “Lake Senba”
By walk:15 minutes' walk along Sakuragawa Cycleway (flowering cherry street) from Mito Station (South Exit)
