It is my great honor to be inaugurated as the 18th Mayor of Mito, a
historical and traditional city, with great supports of many citizens.
As a mayor, I will do my best to make the city active, energetic, comfortable
and livable for all citizens that will be suitable for the capital of
Ibaraki prefecture.
The economic conditions of Japan have become worse than ever and so
has Mito City, though we will revitalize the local economy and make
Mito City an active and energetic city.
To put it into practice, we must expand the decentralization and establish
the financial basis as a middle-long term plan. At the same time, we
must construct a society where everyone helps each other, and promote
the development of industry, culture and art for the future when Mito
City will have 500,000 citizens.
Citizens' participation to the municipal government is necessary to
reflect their opinions to the administration. Also, we have to further
the administrative and financial reform and the reduction of annual
expenditure and administration itself.
My duty is to decide which subjects will be given priority and if they
really benefit the citizens of Mito City. Then, the most important thing
is to manage the administration with citizens' understanding and cooperation
based on our accountability.
I will make all efforts to ensure Mito City is an energetic and comfortable
city, a city which suits the capital of Ibaraki prefecture, with the
assistance of citizens.
