Howaen Garden

Howaen Garden is an authentic Japanese garden with a total of 6,000 strains of hydrangea of 100 varieties. It was named by Tokugawa Mitsukuni well-known as “Mito Koumon” in 1600AD. In June and July, hydrangea blooms around; in November, the whole garden is covered with red leaves. It is very beautiful. Many people will pay homage to Kshitigarbha Bodihisattiva "Pinkoro Jizo" in the Nijusanyason Keiganji Temple, on the 23rd day of each month.

Access By bus:Take a bus for“Sakae-Ibadai ・Watari” from Mito Station (North Exit, No.7 Bus Stop), and get off at the stop“Entrance to Howaen Garden” (about 15 minutes, JPY240)
