Mito Ume Festival

"Ume" means "plum blossom".The Mito Ume Festival is held in Kairakuen Garden and Kodokan Mito Han School.
A total of 3,000 plum trees belonging to about 100 varieties are grown in Kairakuen Garden, one of three famous gardens in Japan. One of features is the diversified varieties of plum blossoms and long ornamental period. Besides, the “Umeshu Festival” for tasting and comparing the umeshu across the county, "Plum worship at night" (dream space created by candle lamps), and other various events be held during the Mito Ume Festival.
Kodokan Mito Han School, Japan's largest Mito clan's school, has 800 plum trees of about 60 varieties. Among them, Japan allspice blossoms in early winter, with the earliest blooming period. The traditional Martial Arts Performances and others will be shown.
In addition to the fresh scent of plum blossom, you will experience the “plum” comprehensively with your five sense organs.

By bus:Kairakuen Garden: Take a bus for “Ibaraki Prefectural Museum of History・Kairakuen Garden” at Mito Station (North Exit, No.4 Bus Stop), get off at “Omotemon of Kobuntei”, “East Gate to Kairakuen Garden•Kita-sando of Joban Sinto Shrine”, “Kairakuen Garden•Front of Joban Sinto Shrine”, or walk for about 8 minutes after getting off at the stop “Ibaraki Prefectural Museum of History•Entrance to Kairakuen Garden”. Take a bus for “Kairakuen Garden” at Mito Station (North Exit, No.6 Bus Stop), and get off at the terminal station “Kairakuen Garden” (about 20 minutes, JPY240)
