Kairakuen - park

One of the three greatest gardens in Japan, Kairakuen was created by Lord Nariaki Tokugawa in 1842. The garden spreads over 13ha, and the marvelous scent from 3000 plum trees of 100 different varieties welcomes you. Cherry (sakura) and azalea blossoms can be seen in the spring, and bush clover (lespedeza) in the fall. Architecture of the Koubuntei in the garden has the presence of a Mito samurai in its simplicity, and you can see Senba Lake from Rakujyuroh on the third floor.
